Dr. McMellenOrthopedic Surgery & Sports Medicine

Dr. McMellen is an orthopedic surgeon with advanced training in sports medicine and minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery. He attended Miami University of Ohio where he gradated with a Bachelor of Science from the University Honors Program. He then earned his medical degree with Alpha Omega Alpha honors from Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine followed by an orthopedic surgery residency at Case Western Reserve University. During his time in residency, Dr. McMellen traveled to Switzerland for additional training in complex shoulder and elbow surgery from world-renowned experts in Zurich. He completed his orthopedic training with a fellowship in sports medicine at the prestigious Steadman Hawkins Clinic in Denver, CO. During this year, he served as a physician for both the Denver Broncos and the Colorado Rockies.

His areas of expertise include minimally invasive shoulder, knee, and hip arthroscopy, ACL reconstruction, cartilage restoration, overhead throwing athletes, and joint replacement. As an active researcher, Dr. McMellen has contributed to the advancement of orthopedics with publications of numerous articles in reputable orthopedic journals. Outside of work, his favorite activities revolve around spending time with his wife and three children.
